Olya is an exceedingly attractive and tough young lady. In her short life she has been through more than most people could bear in a long one. At the age of 12 she was diagnosed with sarcoma. The doctors told her that the only hope to save her was by amputating her leg as soon as possible. But Olya and her parents fought to the last to try to find alternative treatment.
They did the rounds of different doctors and finally, when they were ready to accept the inevitable, it was already too late and the amputation could not prevent the metastases which had already spread to other parts of her body.
At 15 years old, Olya was one of those people who is always the centre of attention in any group. She likes modern music and until she became ill, loved dancing. She hates to think of herself as ill or different and so she avoids the society of other people of her age. The only person she opened her heart to was the therapist at the Belarusian Children’s Hospice.
Since childhood, Olya had dreamed of going to a rock concert. The Belarusian Children’s Hospice was able to help realise this dream. Olya, like anyone else, has many ambitions, but unlike most of us, she does not have much time in which to make them a reality. This is why it is so important to do everything we can to help her to realise her ambitions, while she still has the opportunity.
Sadly, since this was written Olya has passed away with her parents and hospice staff by her side.
