Internationally acclaimed Russian pianist Alexander Ardakov played to a full house in Amersham, Bucks (north of London) on Saturday 10 March 2007. The occasion was an evening arranged by Friends of the Belarussian Children's Hospice (UK) to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.

Alexander played to a full house and two standing ovations. The evening raised almost four thousand pounds for the Belarussian Children's Hospice which is now struggling to cope with a wave of young babies with congenital anomalies, born to Belarussian parents aged between 19 and 23. Director of the Hospice, Anna Gorchakova, in her speech, said that in her opinion and that of other medics with whom she works, what they are now seeing in Belarus are the consequences of irradiation of those who were small children or in utero at the time of the Chernobyl disaster.
